Plainfield Girl Scouts

Juliette Gordon Low

Juliette Gordon Low established Girl Guiding in the United States in 1912. Mrs. Low held the first troop meeting in her home in Savannah, GA, on March 12, 1912. The Girl Guides were modeled after the scouting movement founded by Robert Baden-Powell.

The national organization was incorporated in 1915, with Mrs Low as the first president, and Girl Scouts of the USA was chartered by the United States Congress in 1950. Girl Scouts of the USA is one of 145 member countries of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.

Mission

The Girl Scout movement is open to all girls and adults who accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law. The goals of the Girl Scout program and the way girls benefit from their experience are:

Developing Self-Potential

to achieve one's full individual potential.

Developing Values

to guide actions and provide a foundation for sound decision-making.

Relating To Others

to increasing understanding, skill and respect.

Contributing To Society

to use one's abilities and leadership skills in cooperation with others.

Girl Scout Law

I will do my best

friendly and helpful,

considerate and caring,

courageous and strong,

and responsible for what I say and do,

and to

respect myself and others,

respect authority,

use resources wisely,

make the world a better place,

and be a sister to every Girl.

Girl Scout Promise

On my honor, I will try:

To serve God* and my country,

To help people at all times,

And to live by the Girl Scout Law.

* When reciting the Girl Scout Promise, it is okay to replace the word "God" with whatever word your spiritual beliefs dictate.

Juliette Gordon Low

Juliette Gordon Low establecio Girl Guiding (Guidismo) en los Estados Unidos en 1912. La Señora Low celebró la primera reunión de una tropa en su hogar en Savannah, GA, el Marzo 12, 1912. Las Guias tomaron como modelo el Escultismo fundado por Robert Baden-Powell.
