Block/Tenant associations are an essential part of crime prevention. Liasons from Plainfield associations meet in the evenings, every 4th Tuesday of the month (6:30 PM). Meetings are currently being held at the offices of the United Presbyterian Church at 525 East Front Street.

Operation CeaseFire New Jersey
Operation CeaseFire New Jersey is a statewide anti-violence campaign modeled after Operation CeaseFire Chicago. The initiative strives to achieve a substantial near-term impact on gun violence by engaging criminal justice, health, religious, and civic leaders to improve the quality of life and to Stop The Next Shooting. The intention and purpose of Second Street Youth Center Foundation, Inc., is to promote the interest, welfare educational and social development of all children in the Plainfield, NJ community by actively working to create an environment that will nurture and shape their growth. Second Street Youth Center develops children’s competency, self-esteem and self-reliance through opportunities to make choices, experiment, create, imagine and inquire.

Plainfield Municipal Utilities Authority
The PMUA is asking that residents remove cans and bottles from plastic bags before placing them into the blue recycle bins. Clear plastic bags can only be used for shredded paper recycling. For more information contact PMUA at (908) 226-2518.

The City of Plainfield Police Division is in need of school crossing guards. Residency is required. Applications can be picked up at the desk of Plainfield Police Division Headquarters or at the Personnel Division office at City Hall. Newborns in Need (NIN) makes and donates baby gowns, blankets, and other essential baby items to hospitals, homeless shelters and other organizations that provide for premature and newborn infants. NIN meets on the 1st Saturday of every month in the Board Room of Muhlenberg Hospital. For more information contact Daphne Boyd (908) 561-8613.

Girls And Boys In Conversation
